History

I received this kite for my Birthday back in 2002, and it was my first "real" stunt kite.  When I started flying I thought it was really neat to be able to spin turn the kite a few turns one way and then the other without crashing it.  I primarily flew it on vacation when conditions were right.  It was the only kite I had until 2005 when I began flying more seriously after moving near a beach and discovering that you could do more than spin turns with a kite.

Construction

Designed as a beginner kite, the Adrenaline has a very rugged construction.  The solid carbon frame is very difficult to break.  I can attest to running it into the ground at high speed and in high winds on many occasions with no adverse effects.

The carbon spars and nylon/mylar sail is typical for kites in this price range and is reasonably strong.  It has a one piece lower spreader and rotating T at the center.  The kite comes with a plastic tail which is fun for flying figures, and plastic handles (which I quickly replaced with a good set of straps).

Tuning

None - it flies pretty good figures right out of the box.  You could add a few grams to the tail if you want to perform fades.

In Flight

This kite is a lot of fun to fly for a first time flier.  The small size makes it quick, agile, and gives it a fairly light pull.  It is a good kite for a beginner to get used to the basics of launching, turning and flying.  I keep it in my kite bag for the kids to play with and also for anyone visitors who might want to try their hand at flying for the first time.

As far as tricks, it can do quite a few of the basic tricks with a little care taken to account for its small size.  Snap stalls and side slides are easily accessible. It will sit in a turtle, and can do an OK lazy susan at altitude.  Axels are not too bad for a kite this size. You can pop it into a fade, though it is not always easy to maintain.  Overall the starting tricks are accessible.

I would not, however, rate it as a great trick machine due to the small size and slightly older design.  Some of the newer kites are more capable for just a few dollars more.  Yet this takes nothing away from the Adrenaline.  It is one of the top selling entry level kites of all time because it offers great all around introductory performance in an inexpensive package.

Overall Impression

The kite does what it is designed to do - it provides a relatively cheap, strong, fun kite to the beginning flier and also offers enough trick capability to allow a person to get hooked.  It certainly worked in my case - once I was able to fly the Adrenaline on a regular basis I became hooked on sport kite flying and eventually moved on to other (more expensive) designs.  It is a lot of fun!
